Pasadena, MD to Chincoteaque, VA..Oct 6/7, 2010

Wednesday was a full day of emotions. On one hand we were leaving Patricia and her extended family and one of the nicest person we know, and on the other hand, we were off to new adventures and to continue our journey. As we pulled out of Patricia's driveway, had we had better planning, she could have come with us on the last leg of our journey to Two Springs. However, all being well, she will join the Two Springs family sometime this winter season. Thank you Patricia and Bill and Mike for taking time out of your very busy lives to be such wonderful tour guides and hosts to us Canadians!!

Our journey this day was not all that long and we did make two stops. One at the Maryland rest/service area to gather a little more info on that beautiful state and the second one was at the Virginia rest/sevice centre to gather info on this state.I had BCAA maps of all the states, I thought, but not for Virginia. The info/service centres in each state that we have so far visited in the USA, could teach Central/Western Canadians how to treat visitors. Easily accesible rest/service areas with information on everything you could ever want to do in the state/area you are visiting, plus staff who are polite and very knowledgeable.

On leaving Patricia's we managed to find our way back over the Bay Bridge, onto Hwy 50 and continue on that road until we reached SR-175 when we turned east to get to Tom's Cove RV park at Chincoteague, VA. Wow, this is the last stop on the eastern shore and before you arrive at the Atlantic Ocean.

Our spot here is only a few feet from the inlet of the Chesapeake Bay on the Chincoteague Inlet; we could not have a better spot. On our arrival, we quickly set up camp and the went for a drive around this charming tourist town and explored a bit of the area to get our bearings. Back at the bus for a short time to enjoy a brief happy hour and then down to "Bill's Seafood Restaurant" for dinner. Dale enjoyed an appetizer of local clams on the half shell and a LARGE bowl of Oyster Chowder, while I "suffered" through a caeser salad and a seafood dish of crab, jumbo shrimp, scallops smothered in the most delicious cheese sauce. As we waddled out, fully sated, we managed to find the car and get ourselves home. Oh, such rich food..a treat, but think we will stick to simpler fare next time around.

This morning we decided that not only would we stay another night but we booked in for an additional two nights...with a third as a possible option. This spot we're in is fantastic and we are enjoying it to no end. All the RV'ers are so friendly and helpful and we are having way to much fun. We spent the first part of the day, after a leisure start, to touring the small "downtown" area and then had lunch at the Sea Side Cafe...Turkey Club for Dale (which he could only eat half of and said was awesome..and a fried flounder sandwhich for me...tossed the bread and ate the flounder...delicious!). This is not a large place, but it took us four hours to go in and out of all the local establishments and stop and talk with the owners at each one; plus the wine samples at the local wine store!!

Home again and thoughts of being a sun bunny were quickly vanquished when Dale brought out the Kite he had bought the afternoon before. Spent a short time fighting the wind but there was not enough to keep the kite up for any period of time. Soooo, gave up kite flying for now and Dale then rigged up a couple of fishing rods and we walked down to one of the piers in front of us to try our luck.(OK..so it was only about 100 feet...ahhhh!). We spent the next couple of hours trying to catch the big one!.

I did catch one small flounder that we returned and Dale caught two crab.."who got away", but it was a fun couple of hours. We need some different rig for this fishing so will gete the necessary gear tomorrow to enjoy another contest tomorrow evening.

Needless to say, we had a late dinner (shared a small steak and a salad...too late to have anything more) and now enjoying a quiet evening. Even tho ' it is early October, the weather has changed to Indian Summer temperatures. The breeze off the bay is warm so is very pleasant to be outside. Early evening is nice, however once the dark is on, the critters do come out so if you don't have a fire burning, you'll quickly be inside.

More adventures tomorrow as we explore Assateague National Park, see if the wind will allow us to "fly a Kite" and try our hand at another round of fishing. We are now booked in until Saturday with the option of additional day(s) should we stay longer!!! This place is addictive but we do need to move on...I think!

Till next time....
