Newmarket to Beamsville: Aug 8-9, 2010

The old farmhouse

Sunday dawned with pouring rain and warmth which meant high humidity and uncomfortable temperatures. Dale and I headed off to Newmarket Church of the Nazarene for their 10:30 service (which as it turns out, started at 10:00 a.m.!!). However, they had a video presentation plus some other items so it wasn't over until almost noon anyway. Once again, Dale hadn't been in that church for M A N Y years and was amazed at all the changes. Keep reminding him he is remembering a lot of things from the perspective of a 10 year old boy.

Did a quick stop at Chapter's to pick up the book "Excel for dummies" and then back to the bus for lunch. In the later afternoon we picked up Irene and did a drive/tour of Aurora, another of Dale's very old stomping grounds. Aurora is a very pretty town with multitudes of flowers and well kept gardens; it has quite a charming "aura" about it. An old town with an old history and it shows in the well maintained homes. I would say it is a proud little community.

We had a fairly early evening as I guess the humidity was once again getting the best of Dale and I. We couldn't turn on the air conditioning as we were/are still worried about the generator so had a bit of a restless evening; thank goodness it cooled a little towards morning.

We left Newmarket around 11:30 a.m.; took the 400 freeway to the new 407 toll highway which bypasses everything, to the QEW and onto our park just south of Jordan Station, where Aunt Verla lives. The 407 records your license and regardless where you live, it will send a bill. Somehow they are linked to everything across the country. Apparently it is quite expensive as well but since the car is in the company name, guess they will get the bill...ah geeze eh!!

The only happening on our journey here is that when you join the 407 to go either east or west, it does not designate what cities are in either direction. We were wanting to go east but as it turns out (after we had gone east for quite a few kilometers) that we really should have gone west, then south, then east. At least we did get to see more scenery and admire the new freeway!

The park we are in "Shangri-La Niagara Family Campground" is the only park in the area that we could find that had 50 AMP and even at that, they only have 3 sites with 50 AMP. Power and water at the site but no sewer. The "honey wagon" comes by a couple of times a week to pump you out so must make sure we are home on the right days and times.

Once we got hooked up we both enjoyed very long hot showers and then went off to visit with Bob & Diana. Made a wrong turn somewhere so asked for directions and that person sent us off in the wrong direction again. Eventually we got there and were able to have a short visit with them before they were off to a grandson's soccer game. Diana said they were doing a progressive dinner. Dinner with them, and then we stopped at Aunt Verla's for tea and dessert. Jimmy & Sandy and son Tim came in so got a nice visit in with them as well. Will see them again in a day or two.

Home again and now just relaxing. Innocently baked a cake saying it was for lunch at Aunty Verla's tomorrow but in reality it is a 75th birthday cake for Dale. We are hoping to have a small surprise lunch at Aunty Verla's ... will see how it goes..

The old barn..wonderful stone foundation.
Till next time
